Baking Soda Project

Baking soda is used in recipes to promote leavening. When combined in a recipe with acidic ingredients, the resulting reaction releases carbon dioxide which causes the dough to rise and become light porous.

Students were asked to try using varying batches of leavening ingredients, observe the differences in size, texture and taste of their baking goods. Oven is not a common kitchenware in our culture, this project allows students to learn how to use oven properly and prepare themselves for college life.
