Highlights of Teaching –Psychology:Problem Based Learning

AP Psychology teaching not only focuses on the explanation of theoretical knowledge, but also focuses on practical application. Through case analysis, experimental design and other methods, the course allows students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical applications and cultivate their practical and problem-solving abilities. Students will be asked to solve the problem for the authentic case. 

Question: Which is the best nursing style for Alzheimer’s disease? Nursing at home or in the hospital?

Content: In chapter 8, students learned the knowledge of Memory and Forgetting. Alzheimer’s disease is a disease with the significant cognitive impairment. More and more families are facing the problem of how to nurse the family member who is suffering.  

Preparation: Students were divided into three groups and have different tasks. Each group will have their thematic problems and the work sheet.

During the project:

Group A: Students used the meta-analysis to researching the development stages of disease. They turned to the scientist of brain science and learned more about the methods of diagnosing. Finally, they complete the essay perfectly.

Group B: Students used the meta-analysis to researching the effective methods to slow the progression of Alzheimer's Disease.

Group C: They conducted an interview with the family’s member of the Alzheimer’s Disease. They emphasized the feeling of the family members and the economic burden of caring the patient.

Conclusion:                                                  

Based on the information, students concluded that people can nursing the patients at home at the beginning of the disease. But with the development of the disease, patient need more medical support and nursing in the hospital will be a better choice.

After the lessons, some students continued the project and wanted to provide more support to the patients and their families. Problem based learning encouraged the students to gather the information ,over come the difficulties and finding out the answers by themselves.
