In recent years, SWWYID geography classes have taken on a distinctive form that integrates classroom learning with real-world exploration. Led by geography teacher Mr. Song Zhenming, students have experienced geography as a subject that connects knowledge with practice and global awareness.

Through examples drawn from Mr. Song’s field experiences in places such as Indonesia’s Mount Bromo and Nusa Penida Island, students explored topics including plate tectonics, monsoon systems, coastal landforms, and ecological balance. Current events were also brought into the classroom. For instance, lessons were linked to real-time phenomena such as auroras observed across China in 2024 and extreme heat in Shanghai, helping students understand atmospheric circulation and climate patterns.

Each June, geography learning extends further during Social Practice Week. Students conduct field investigations in locations such as Jingmai Mountain’s ancient tea forests, the Silk Road geological regions, and traditional irrigation systems, combining scientific observation with cultural reflection.

Through this approach, geography teaching at SWWYID emphasizes inquiry, responsibility, and action, encouraging students to better understand the world and their role as informed global citizens.
