Highlights of Teaching – Biology
Sales pitch presentation: students made a video or poster sales pitch to try to sell ATP (energy) or chloroplast (which can produce oxygen) to a potential business client and presented it.
For laboratory work, students ran tests on different foods (apple, bread) to determine if glucose, starch, proteins, or fats were present in the samples. If these macromolecules were detected they will observe a color change. Students then reported their findings on a data sheet and reflected on problems or errors that might have occurred during their experiments and how it can be improved next time.
I also created an interactive review board game for students to review material and have fun learning. The Cell Review game is designed to be played in a single class period (approximately 45 minutes). The game board shows different review sections about the cell. Section 1: cell organelles, Section 2: Cell membrane, Section 3: Passive transport, Section 4: Cell Analogies. The main focus is the concept of the cell, and the different components and mechanisms that occur within it. The game includes dice, word banks, mouse hovering over to read the question, and clicking questions to check their answer.
The objective of the game is to move along the track by correctly answering the questions. Players do this by moving their organism along the track if they get it right. If not, they must stay at the previous space until they get the next question right. It is designed for up to 4 players but 2-3 is ideal since the players only use one laptop to play.

Students collaborated on a Padlet and used analogies to represent different organelles in the cell. This group in particular was creative enough to use Hogwarts as an analogy for representing the organelles in a cell.
