A Warm Journey of a Blood Bag | SWWYID’s Series Activities of Exploring Blood Science
To educate high school students about blood science and promote voluntary blood donation, SWWYID organized a series of activities this term: The Life Journey of a Blood Bag—a visit to the Shanghai Blood Center, Love and Community—blood science workshops, and Youth in Action—volunteer services.
In mid-April, 45 11th-grade teachers and students visited the Shanghai Blood Center, where Mr. Cheng Yuan and Ms. Liu Yiwen provided an interactive session on the significance of voluntary blood donation and blood processing procedures. Students toured various departments, gaining firsthand knowledge of how blood is collected, tested, and stored.
On April 30, Mr. Cheng delivered an engaging lecture to 10th graders, discussing blood donation’s history and importance. These experiences deepened students' understanding of blood donation and the values of empathy and service.
These visits and lectures opened a window for students to explore the science and significance of blood donation, helping them understand the processes involved in blood handling and the values of empathy and public service associated with donation. We hope students, with a deeper understanding of blood donation, will actively promote its benefits and engage in volunteer activities, embodying the responsibility and spirit of the youth of today.
