A Healing Journey Through Music | G12 Psychology Seminar
On October 15, SWWID G12 welcomed Ms. Niu Xiaona, a psychotherapist specializing in music therapy, for a psychology seminar.
Ms. Niu, an expert from Shanghai Mental Health Center, began by asking students how they manage stress. Responses ranged from exercising to listening to music. She highlighted music as a powerful therapeutic tool, explaining that it can open emotional pathways and foster healing where words fall short.
Using real-life clinical cases, Ms. Niu explained how music influences brain activity, emotions, and cognition, providing a way to balance stress during intense periods like university applications. She advised, "The best music is the one you love."
The seminar concluded with a guided relaxation exercise incorporating mindful breathing, body awareness, and white noise. Students experienced music’s calming effect, gaining insight into its potential to promote inner peace and emotional well-being.
