A Cultural Visit to Guiyang: Caring for Children with Autism

On June 22nd, SWWYID students and faculty traveled to the Guiyang Aixin Home --- a Special Education and Rehabilitation Training Center for Children in Guizhou Province. They carried out a three-day assistance and companionship program there.
Wearing specially designed goggles to experience visual distortion and using noise-canceling headphones to simulate auditory hypersensitivity, SWWYID students gained a firsthand understanding of the daily experiences of "children of the stars." Students also formed "one-on-one" groups with learners from Aixin Home, integrating into both junior and senior classes based on age and curriculum needs.
This activity ultimately transformed into two precious gifts of growth: individuals with autism touched the warmth of the world through companionship, while SWWYID students learned the philosophy of "different yet equal" lives through understanding. The road ahead remains long—they carry light, warmth, and boundless possibilities.
