Beyond Words: Language Electives Bring Cultures to Life at SWWYID

At SWWYID, language learning goes far beyond textbooks. The school’s world language electives, including Korean, Spanish, and Japanese, immerse students in vibrant cultural experiences that transform classrooms into global gateways.
In Korean class, students master pronunciation through songs, dub animated clips, and even make Korean rice balls while describing ingredients in Korean. Spanish class brings Latin energy alive with the rhythms of Despacito, the architectural wonders of Gaudí, and student-led film appreciation projects where learners research, write, and present entirely in Spanish. Japanese class balances rigor with creativity, building strong foundations in hiragana, katakana, and kanji while using Japanese songs to explore everyday expressions and cultural nuances.
These courses are designed around “future competency,” blending language skills with deep cultural immersion. Rather than rote memorization, students learn by living the language: role-playing real-life scenarios, exploring traditions, and expressing themselves with confidence.
By stepping into new linguistic worlds, SWWYID students are not only acquiring language tools, but they are also developing the global perspectives and cross-cultural awareness that will empower them on the international stage.
